Good morning, beautiful people of Calgary!
I am still thinking about the fact that we are getting an urban chicken school in the northeast. I might need to look into adopting a hen instead of a dog this year.
Water restrictions are still on — three weeks to go — but the city says Calgarians have been nailing it. Daily demand has stayed under 500 million litres all week.
Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day. The Ship & Anchor is going all day. The Ironwood is going full Irish. The Grand is screening Boondock Saints. Plan accordingly.
We also need to talk about that real estate poll from last week. We were all incredibly wrong. It seems we are a little out of touch with condo prices these days. We will try again today with a new property to see if we can redeem ourselves.
Let’s get to it.

New urban chicken school. You read that correctly. The Winston Heights-Mountview Community Association is building a coop to house a dozen hens. It is a hands-on training center for Calgarians wanting to learn the backyard chicken lifestyle. You learn about predator-proof enclosures and you get to take home fresh eggs. I mean, that is the news I absolutely needed this Monday. Learn more
Boil water advisory hits the southwest. About 500 homes and businesses in Spruce Cliff, Wildwood, and Rosscarrock are dealing with a busted water line. You need to boil your tap water for a full minute before you make your oatmeal. The city parked a few water wagons nearby to ease the pain. Expect this to last a few days while crews flush the mains. Free grad outfits for the Class of 2026. High school graduation is a massive milestone. The community is stepping up to make sure every student gets to cross that stage feeling their absolute best. The GRADitude Project lets any Grade 12 student pick out a suit or dress for free. If you want to help them out, you can drop off gently used suits or long dresses at any Stephen Cleaners location in the city. They also need volunteers and cash donations to keep the racks full for their upcoming April dates. Get the details
A look back at the downtown free fare zone. We all know the 7th Avenue free train ride. It has been a downtown staple since 1981. It was built to ease traffic and convince people to take transit back in the day. Now that the city is reviewing the zone, Sprawl Calgary put together a fantastic look back at how this quirky transit loophole started in the first place. It is a fun piece of local history. This is Sadie-Lady. She is a four-year-old Shepherd and Australian Cattle Dog mix weighing in at 46 pounds. She is a certified kisser with a ton of friendly energy. She gets over-excited when meeting new people, so she needs humans willing to help her practice polite greetings.
She is an active dog who needs a busy household and daily walks. She must be the only pet in your home because she prefers flying solo. She is house-trained and non-destructive. She can safely free-roam the house while you are at work. She gets along great with kids and loves her human family.
She is currently living with a volunteer family, which means you need to schedule a meet-and-greet online. She is a "Patient Paw," meaning she comes with a reduced fee and the option for a trial sleepover.
How to adopt: Submit the request form through the Calgary Humane Society. See her profile

Our collective real estate trauma is showing. Over 80 percent of you thought last week's apartment was way more expensive than it was. Only 17.8 percent nailed the correct price of $179,900. We are so accustomed to wild housing costs that a sub-$200k tag feels like a typo.
Let us try to recalibrate our brains today.
Take a good look at the photos for this week and cast your vote. Bonus points if you can guess the neighbourhood.
