Good morning, Calgary.
Hope you are doing great. We had a technical glitch with the last edition, so many of you did not receive it. Our apologies. It is sad because we were introducing our referral program in it.
Anyway, here we go:
Share the Scoop, Get Rewarded Help us grow Calgary’s best community and earn rewards.
3 Referrals: A 150-character Classified Ad or Birthday Shoutout.
10 Referrals: A $20 gift card (Monogram Coffee, Village Ice Cream, etc).
50 Referrals: A $100 dinner on us (The Keg, Earls, Cactus Club etc.).
We almost reached 5,000 readers! Thank you to all of you!
According to the results of our last poll, summer camps are a split issue.

But 50% of you still need some information on them. So we are building a huge reference roundup in one place and will link to it in a future edition.
That same poll showed strong interest in patios (wink-wink). We will go on a hunt for the best spots and put together a patio roundup. If you have good tips on the best patios around town, hit reply and let us know.
As for usual business, we have a lot of local news and fun events to cover today. We are introducing our long-promised real estate rubric, but we decided to go an unusual route with it. Let us know what you think.
Let’s get to it.

UCalgary skaters strike gold again. UCalgary alum Isabelle Weidemann and Oval-trained teammates Ivanie Blondin and Valérie Maltais defended their Olympic gold in the women’s team pursuit. They beat the Netherlands in a tight six-lap final in Milano Cortina. Team Canada now sits at 14 medals total. Read the recap
Big bills for water on the ground and in the air. The City of Calgary consistently underspent its water infrastructure budget over the last two decades. Council is now pledging $1.1 billion to fix the pipes and prevent another crisis. Meanwhile, Alberta signed a $400-million deal for five new Canadair waterbombers ahead of wildfire season. Have your say on the downtown Free Fare Zone. The CTrain free fare zone along 7th Avenue has cost riders nothing since 1979. The city is now reviewing this 2.5-kilometre stretch to decide its future. Transit riders have until March 8 to fill out the online survey and share their thoughts. Take the survey
The fake spring is over and the freeze is here. The temperature plunged back down, bringing a brutal -40 C windchill to the city. Heavy snowfall forced Calgary Transit to activate city-wide snow detours for all bus routes to avoid steep hills. Give yourself extra time to commute today. School routes remain unaffected. U of C gets a grant to clean up orphan wells. Alberta is putting $28 million into six new cleantech projects to lower industrial emissions. The University of Calgary secured $750,000 for a new method to pull hydrocarbons and salts from soil at the same time. The other funded projects focus on converting farm waste to natural gas and testing new carbon capture technology. Learn about the projects

This is Wick. He is a six-year-old Beagle and Collie mix with a slight paperwork identity crisis. The shelter checked "neutered male" on his file, but the staff bio calls him a "sweet lady." Regardless of the typo, Wick takes his treats like a professional.
Weighing in at 26 pounds, he is a gentle soul looking for a calm, adult-only home. He already knows how to sit and lay down on command. He loves a predictable routine and needs a secure yard for his daily patrols. He is looking for patient humans who enjoy quiet walks and have some dog experience.
If you have another dog, Wick prefers roommates his own size who share his laid-back playstyle.
How to adopt: Call the City of Calgary Animal Services at 3-1-1. Meet Wick

You asked for a real estate section and we built one. We just decided to make a game out of it.
Every week, we will show you three photos of a real Calgary home currently sitting on the market. Your job is to guess the asking price from the options below (bonus points for guessing the location!).
Take a good look at the photos and cast your vote. Let’s see if you nailed it.

What do you think this Calgary home is listed for?
