Good morning, beautiful people of Calgary!
Spring has a way of filling the calendar all at once. This week alone you have folk music royalty, a murder in a barn, the Calgary Phil going full Latin, and 50 comedians competing for their shot at the big stage.
We also have some good news on the city front — a new transit milestone, a park getting a major overhaul, and a thrift store that will give your unused art supplies a second life.
Also, the weather this week is very much a Calgary situation. Layers. Always layers.
A reminder that our Summer Camp Guide is up. We went all in and covered over 50 programs around the city.
We are also thinking out loud: should Calgary Scoop start showing up in person? Events, gatherings, that kind of thing.
Would you show up?
Let’s get to it.

Smart bike parking hits downtown. Calgary has its first smart docking stations for traditional and e-bikes. The city set up "Bikeep" lockers and IoT-connected racks at CPA Lot 25 on 10th Avenue. This gives commuters a secure place to lock up without worrying about carrying heavy chains. It is a welcome addition for anyone tired of bike theft in the core. See the setup
The Blue Line airport connection is inches closer. The city and province locked in $43.3 million in construction funding to extend the Blue Line LRT past Saddletowne. The track will go one kilometre north to a new station at 88th Avenue N.E. This brings the city one step closer to building the final transit connection directly to the Calgary International Airport. Feast on Fourth returns later this month. The most walkable food festival in Calgary is back for its spring run from April 22 to 26. Multiple restaurants along 4th Street SW are creating special menu items. Everything is priced at a flat $10. You can grab tapas from Bodega by Sabor or a massive banana split from Abbey's Creations. It is an easy way to try new places without spending a lot. Check the menus
Calgary gets a thrift store for art supplies. If your cupboards are full of half-used yarn and random paint brushes, you can clear them out. MartKit is the city's first arts and crafts thrift store. You can donate your old supplies or buy exact amounts of what you need for a new project. It sits on Centre Street S.E. and has a studio space in the back. Read the Avenue profile | Visit the store
Munro Park closes for a major facelift. Winston Heights-Mountview is losing its park access until fall 2026, but the payoff is big. Crews are currently overhauling Munro Park to add a 3-on-3 basketball court and a new community plaza. They are also bringing in native prairie grasslands and pollinator gardens. It will be worth the wait. See the plans

This is Lenny.
He is a four-year-old German Shepherd and Akita mix. Weighing in at 55 pounds, Lenny is a smart and driven boy looking for a calm environment. He already knows a solid list of commands, including sit, down, paw, and speak. He also takes his treats with excellent manners.
Lenny is a sensitive guy who needs an adult-only home and an experienced owner who understands shepherd behaviours. You will need a securely fenced backyard and a commitment to daily leash walks. Off-leash parks are a no-go right now while you build your bond. He needs a structured feeding routine and comes with a required private behaviour training class to get you both on the same page. If you have the patience and the structure he needs, Lenny is ready to be a very loyal companion.

Last week, for the first time, the popular vote (almost 40%) assumed the price was lower than the actual number. The correct answer was $649,000, which 38.4% of you guessed right.
One of our readers suggested sharing the address to check if the location guess is correct. We are doing that from now on. The Purple House was located at 618 21 Ave NW (and the house appears to be sold).
This week, we are going fancy AND historic.
Built in 1912, this property was recently rescued from demolition. The owner did a massive restoration to save the heritage woodwork while adding a 16-foot vaulted primary suite and white oak flooring.
Take a good look at the photos for this week and cast your vote. Bonus points if you can guess the location (just hit reply and shoot us an email with your guess).
