Hello, beautiful people of Calgary!

We're calling it: the snow last weekend was the season's farewell. (Probably. Hopefully. I will not be held to this.) The grass had a confused 24 hours, and the gardening centres did some impressive scrambling, but by Sunday afternoon we were back to "is it shorts weather" and the city moved on as usual.

I spent part of Sunday at the Calgary Reads Big Book Sale on Fill-a-Box day. The selection was, fair to say, slimmer than the opening days — but a $20 box still went home with me, full of books I'm happy about.

This week's edition is a heavy one. McMahon Stadium temporarily gets a new name, eight LRT stations now offer free last-mile rides, and some more. The event calendar is the biggest we've had in a while — a marathon weekend, a circus, a film festival, the Arkells closing out their three-night Calgary takeover, and enough farmers' markets reopening to map your whole summer. Plus a fancy house guess in Price Check.

Let's get to it.

Eight LRT stations now offer free e-scooter and e-bike rides for the last mile. The City has teamed up with Bird Canada and Neuron to cover the first 10 minutes of any trip starting at select stations — long enough to get you home from the train when you'd otherwise be walking 20 minutes in the wrong shoes. Bird's at Heritage, Southland, 45th Street, and Crowfoot. Neuron's at Barlow/Max Bell, Franklin, Rundle, and Saddletowne. Open the app, find the dedicated corral, ride. After 10 minutes, regular rates kick in. See where the corrals are

The Sunnyside Flood Barrier is finally doing its job. The 2.4-kilometre wall along the Bow is functionally complete, just in time for the mid-May to mid-July stretch when Calgary floods tend to happen. It's built to handle a 1-in-100-year flood — the kind that wrecked Sunnyside and Hillhurst in 2013 — using permanent concrete and steel, plus temporary panels that drop in to close gaps at roads and pathways. Riverfront restoration work continues through fall, so expect a few pathway detours if you're walking the north side. How the barrier works

McMahon Stadium is going by "McWomahon" for the next six weeks. Calgary Wild FC and the Alberta Women's Health Foundation added a "Wo" to the old barn for the rest of the spring stretch — a campaign to fund women's health research that's been chronically underfunded for, oh, all of medical history. There's a season-long 50/50 raffle attached. If you've been meaning to catch a Wild game, the next two home dates are against Halifax and AFC Toronto, both at "McWomahon." Read the full story

Platform Calgary is quietly turning the city into a tech destination. Tucked into East Village, the 50,000-square-foot non-profit has had 370,000+ people through its doors since 2022 — founders, investors, university kids, and people just grabbing coffee. Most of the programming is free. The bet is paying off: Calgary had the fastest-growing tech job market in North America between 2021 and 2024, up 61 per cent. If you've ever toyed with starting something, the building is open to the public and worth a wander. Avenue's full feature

This is Diesel, a 1-year-old male American Staffordshire Terrier mix. He weighs 55 pounds, though he's still got some growing to do — most dogs don't hit full size until around eighteen months.

Diesel is a sensitive guy who takes his time warming up to new people. Once he trusts you, the affectionate side comes out: he likes staying close to his person, playing fetch, and working through enrichment puzzles like snuffle mats. He needs a calm, patient home that understands sensitive dogs and is willing to put in the time to build a real bond. With consistency, shelter staff say he has the potential to be a deeply loyal companion.

He's previously lived with older kids (10 and 14) and was friendly and playful with them. Dog-savvy older children are recommended — anyone who can read and respect his body language. No other dogs in the home, and no known history with cats or small animals.

Last week, 30.0% of you got it right. The answer was $499,800. The house was on Penmeadows Close SE. Most of you went high — fair instinct, but it didn't land this time.

This week we are going fancy. A grand home in one of Calgary's most established inner-city neighbourhoods, where the lots are big and the trees are bigger (and let’s be honest a lot of its price is dictated by the location).

Take a good look at the photos and cast your vote. Bonus points if you can guess the neighbourhood (just hit reply and shoot us an email with your guess).
