Good morning, beautiful people of Calgary!
How are you holding up?
Based on my observations, the people who want to leave Calgary — they think about it the most in April. Not in the middle of winter. In January you just put your head down and get through it. April is different — April makes you hope. You have imagined the warmth of spring. You have already mentally booked the patio. And then you wake up and it is snowing again. And it is going to be freezing tomorrow. Again.
We hear you. But just hang on a little longer. Because the warmth is trickling in and the summer that is coming is going to be so good. So just hold tight.
This week we have golf courses opening, Calgary Expo taking over Stampede Park, forty-something live shows, Feast on Fourth, and a Husky mix named Bumbleberry who is looking for a home.
But before we get into all that — we want to know something about you.
Are you a dog person? A cat person? Or are you out here with a bearded dragon and we just do not know it yet?
Let’s get to it.

Golf courses open today. Five City-run courses opened this morning — Maple Ridge, McCall Lake, Shaganappi, and others. The reservation system is live now, with tee times available through the week. Starting today at 7 a.m., Saturday bookings also open up. Book your tee time
Alberta is done with the clock change. Premier Smith announced yesterday that Alberta will adopt permanent daylight saving time. Legislation goes to the legislature this week. BC already made the switch. Saskatchewan never bothered. Alberta is joining them. Worth noting: Albertans voted against this in a 2021 referendum by the narrowest of margins. Apparently close enough to move on anyway. Read the details
Canada Post is coming for your mailbox. The corporation plans to end door-to-door mail delivery for roughly four million addresses, replacing it with community mailboxes. The rollout starts late 2026 and runs five years. They lost $1.57 billion in 2025. The plan raises real concerns for seniors and anyone with mobility issues who cannot safely make it to a community box in a Calgary winter. Canada Post says an accommodation program exists for those cases — but advocates say almost nobody knows about it. Read the story
The goose saga has a sad ending. We covered the Canada goose nesting on a downtown Calgary condo balcony since 2021, and the resident fighting her building to protect the nest. The update: the eggs appear to have been destroyed. The standoff is over. Read the update
She came back — and got moved again. The mama moose relocated from Scenic Acres in January 2025 walked 50 kilometres back to the same neighbourhood and showed up with a new calf. Alberta Fish and Wildlife just moved her again, this time 80 kilometres out near Sundre. Neighbours who had been watching her visit their front lawns all spring were not thrilled. Officers are hoping the extra distance does the trick. Read the story
Young Calgarians went big at the science fair. Close to 800 students from grades 5 to 12 gathered at the UCalgary Olympic Oval earlier this month for the Calgary Youth Science Fair. Projects ranged from Parkinson's research to faster-than-light travel. UCalgary has hosted the fair for 13 years running. Read about it
Calgarians built bookstores across the West. The Sprawl published a piece following four Calgarians who opened beloved used bookstores elsewhere — MacLeod's Books and The Paper Hound in Vancouver, Paper Birch Books in Edmonton, and Sigla Books right here in Calgary. A quiet love letter to print culture and the people who give up stable careers to spend their lives around old books. Worth a slow read this week. Read the piece

This is Bumbleberry.
He is a one-year-old Alaskan Husky mix who weighs 40 pounds and has a name that belongs on a bakery menu. We will be honest — the name is part of why he is this week's pick. But we all agree that the name is the least impressive thing about him.
Bumbleberry is sweet, playful, and deeply convinced he is a lap dog — he will nudge you with his nose until you give him the scratches he deserves. He can be a little shy around new people and is more cautious around men until he feels safe, but once he trusts you, he is all in. He already knows some verbal cues and takes treats gently. Like most Huskies, he needs a lot of daily exercise and something to do with that busy brain of his. He is looking for an active, patient home — ideally with someone who knows the breed or has done the homework. He may do well with other dogs after a proper introduction, but cats and small animals are a hard no. Kids 15 and older only. When Bumbleberry loves, he loves hard.
How to adopt: Visit the Calgary Humane Society. See his profile

Last week, 46.6% of you got it right. The answer was $629,900. Not bad, friends.
This week we are heading north. A modern family home with a legal two-bedroom basement suite.
Take a good look at the photos for this week and cast your vote. Bonus points if you can guess the specific neighborhood (just hit reply and shoot us an email with your guess).
