Calgary Scoop is getting ready for its next chapter! Our feet are excited to hit the pavement, our fingers are itching to tap the keyboard, we’re grabbing a fantastic iced bevvie, and we’re jumping into what we love - sharing the very best of Calgary!
As per true Calgary hospitality, the torch has been passed to new editorship, but the mission remains to connect our community through local events, hidden gems, inspiring people, great food, neighbourhood stories, and all the little things that make this city such an incredible place to call home. We’re grateful to Jan for giving us the opportunity to keep exploring and sharing this amazing city.
In THE 403: River Hall is back on the Bow, 600 goats are on the clock, and we got the veggie assist. Plus a Husky-Lab mix named Charlie who could have played for the FIFA cup, and a family friendly home in a green, established southwest community.

A Parking Lot Just Got a Personality - And it’s on the River.
Okay, clear your calendar — that parking lot on 8th St SW is turning into your favourite riverside hangout. River Hall is back on the Bow River banks, and this time it's showing up FOUR days a week for ten straight weeks (July 23–Sept 27). Free, which means everyone is on the VIP list. Here's the vibe: shipping containers converted into establishments slinging craft beer, cocktails, coffee, and delicious treats. A stage with live music and DJs who know how to spin. Shaded spots to sprawl out with friends. A yoga class where strangers somehow end up feeling like community after 45 minutes. Yes - Fido is welcome to come show off his downward dog.
Basically: downtown Calgary just got a backyard. Meet you there
A Park that Remembers - Even When you Can’t.
Okay, so this isn't the "meet me for cocktails by the river" kind of announcement — but trust me, it's the kind of Calgary news that makes you go wait, we did WHAT first in Canada? Tucked into Dover since 2021, quietly under construction, is the Martin Family Legacy Garden — the first public park in the entire country built specifically for people (and their caregivers) living with dementia. Opening this fall, it's not your average park: paved paths that make sense, colour-coded railings, fragrant flowers — every inch designed to help people feel calm, capable, and like themselves again, even if just for an afternoon.

Meet Calgary’s Hardest Working (and Cutest) Landscaping Crew.
Nose Hill has visitors and they're goats. Until July 30, roughly 600 of them are back on the job munching their way through the area — basically nature's weed whackers. This isn't some rando herd either, this crew's been together almost 30 years and literally bred for the gig (meet: the Alberta Goat). They roll in early morning and work till sundown, with a full-time shepherd, six good dogs, and a campsite right there to keep everything running smooth. You can't wander into their fenced-off pastures, but you can absolutely stroll the pathways and watch the show — just keep your pup leashed.

Bridgeland is About to Get Its Sixth Bucci Baby
Okay, Bridgeland friends, your neighbourhood's about to get a whole lot taller. Bucci Developments is going ahead with East Riverside — a 16-storey, 378-unit building just steps from the Bridgeland-Memorial CTrain station. We're talking retail space, a fitness centre, meeting rooms, and outdoor hangout spots.

Calgary's Good Food Box program has quietly been doing something kind of wonderful for years: fresh, local produce, boxed up by volunteers, delivered to over 30 depots across the city, all for way less than you'd expect. This sweetheart is a 1-year-1-month-old Husky/Lab mix rocking a solid 62 lbs of pure energy, and honestly? He might be the next Messi of the backyard. Ball skills for DAYS, tail wagging nonstop, and a heart wide open for new humans to befriend.
Now here's the real talk — Charlie's a work in progress on the manners front. He's hung out with a kiddo and a cat before, but nobody kept the receipts on how that all went down, so we're playing it safe: supervised intros only.
The dream home for Charlie? An active crew who's confident around a big, bouncy dog and ready to coach him up on his "please and thank yous." Bonus points if soccer's already your thing, 'cause this boy's bringing his own FIFA game.
