Good morning, Calgary!
I cannot believe I actually finished the gift guide. But I did, and it is gems on gems.
Everything is Made in Calgary (okay, there is one Italian exception, but their HQ is here and they are super cute, so I made an executive decision).
Also, everything on the list is either something I have personally tried & loved, or it comes with a gazillion raving reviews from friends and neighbours. I am confident you’ll find something good.
Besides the ginormous gift guide, we have the latest community updates and some amazing events for the pre-Christmas lull. Plus, the latest live music and we found a dog named Amara who might just steal your heart.
Let’s get to it.

The Holiday Train rolls in. The CPKC Holiday Train is hitting the rails this week, and the Calgary stop is set for tomorrow night (Friday, Dec 12). It pulls into Anderson Station for a live performance by the Barenaked Ladies from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. It’s free to watch, but bring a non-perishable food donation for the food bank. Pro tip: Take the train to get to the train—parking will be a nightmare. See the schedule
Transit is free on New Year’s Eve. The City confirmed that getting home safe on Dec 31 will cost you exactly $0. Thanks to a sponsorship from J.P. Wiser’s, all CTrain and bus service will be free starting at 6 p.m. Service is also extended until 4 a.m., so you don’t have to leave the party before the countdown. Read the details
The "Free Stampede" Hack. The Sam Centre just dropped a wild holiday deal: If you visit the museum between Dec 20 and Jan 4, you get a free admission voucher for the 2026 Calgary Stampede. It's a "buy one now, get the big show free later" situation. Get tickets
Heritage Park Shuttle. Heading to Once Upon A Christmas? Calgary Transit is running a special shuttle (Route 502) straight from Heritage Station to the park gates until Jan 4. It saves you the parking headache. Check the schedule

I’m sorry, have you ever seen a sweeter face? This is Amara. She is a 2-year-old Shepherd/Collie mix with a gentle soul and excellent manners—she sits on command and takes treats like a lady.
The shelter is a bit loud and overwhelming for her right now, so she is looking for a calm, adult-only home (16+) where she can decompress. She isn't the dog park type just yet; she prefers structured leash walks and a quiet backyard. If you have patience and a quiet home, she’s ready to be your loyal sidekick.
